Dr. William Guttman, Executive Chairman, is Special Advisor to the Provost of Carnegie Mellon University, and Chairman of iCarnegie, Carnegie Mellon's for-profit corporation.
He previously co-founded Cylab, one of the world's largest University-based research centers dedicated to dependable and secure software and systems. Bill has been instrumental in a variety of University tech transfers; most recently he co-founded the knowledge capture software company, Panopto, whose board he chairs. During his service as Distinguished Service Professor of Economics at Carnegie Mellon's Heinz School, he was a representative on the National Academies of Sciences and Engineering's cybersecurity committee, established by Congress to advise it on Federal R&D priorities. Guttman is also Investment Partner and leads the financial services practice at Philadelphia-based TL Ventures. In addition to his investing activities on behalf of TL, he has founded, co-founded, or held other leadership roles in more than a dozen institutionally-backed ventures - serving as chief executive at several of these, including Printcafe (NASDAQ: PCAF), a 500-person software developer acquired by Electronics for Imaging (NASDAQ: EFII). He has been responsible for consummating over seventy financing and M&A transactions.
Earlier in his career, Dr. Guttman worked on assignment in over thirty countries while serving in advisory capacities for the United States, the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund, and the OECD. He is the author of Pacific-Asian Capital Markets (OECD/Oxford & IBH), Between Bailout and Breakdown: A Modular Approach to the Latin American Debt Crisis (Center for Strategic and International Studies), US Telecommunications Policy in Sub-Saharan Africa (U.S. Agency for International Development), along with other publications and patents.
Bill completed his Masters and Doctoral degrees at Balliol College, Oxford University, where he was a British Council Scholar.
Dr. Sebastián Ceria, Co-Chairman, is Chief Executive
Officer of Axioma, Inc., a leading provider of innovative risk analysis,
portfolio rebalancing and performance attribution solutions and
software for the financial services industry. He is one of the world's
foremost authorities on optimization.
Before founding Axioma, Ceria was an Associate Professor of Decision,
Risk and Operations at Columbia Business School from 1993 to 1998. He
was honored with the prestigious Career Award for Operations Research
from the National Science Foundation, which is given annually to the two
best researchers and teachers in the area. While at Columbia he was
also recognized as the "best core teacher" by his students and the
school. Additionally, Ceria has served as administrator for the
Computational Optimization Research Center and as co-principal
investigator in two National Science Foundation research projects.
Ceria is the author of many articles and has been featured regularly in a
variety of publications including Management Science, Mathematical
Programming, Optima and Operations Research. He has also been an editor
for Optima, and a regular referee for a number of publications in the
area. Past speaking engagements include international corporate and
academic conferences
Ceria completed his PhD in Operations Research at Carnegie Mellon University's Graduate School of Industrial Administration.
David J. Goerz III, Director. David Goerz, Senior Vice
President, Chief Investment Officer, joined HighMark in 2003. As CIO,
Mr. Goerz provides leadership to all of HighMark's investment
activities. He chairs the Investment Policy Committee and the Asset
Allocation Committee, as well as being a member of the Executive
Committee and Board of Directors of HighMark Capital Management. Mr.
Goerz has more than 19 years of investment management experience. Prior
to joining HighMark, he was Chief Investment Officer of mPower Advisors
and Morningstar Associates, subsequent to acquisition. Previously, he
was Director of Global Asset Allocation Research and Portfolio Manager,
as well as serving as Chairman of the Asset Allocation Strategy Group
for Wellington Management. He also held portfolio management and senior
investment research positions with TSA Capital Management and ARCO
Investment Management. Mr. Goerz regularly appears on CNBC, Fox Business
News, as well as Bloomberg TV and Radio. He also is quoted frequently
in various investment periodicals. He also serves on the Board of
Directors for Axioma, Inc., an investment software company.
Mr. Goerz received his BS from UCLA in Applied Mathematics and a Masters in Operations Research Engineering from Stanford.
